Explore Wild Mushroom Dyes of the Northeast

Description

Many wild mushrooms contain permanent, intensely colored dyes. In this workshop, (hosted by Hopkins Vineyard and The Sachem Farm) you will explore the amazing color potential of Northeastern native fungi. We will use 10 species of wild harvested mushroom and eco-friendly mordants on farmstead wool, to create a full spectrum of colors – about 20 samples in all! You will learn about mushroom foraging, looking at the features of fungi for identification, and how to work with their pigments for dyes. In addition to the samples, there will be a community dye pot for you to dye a small silk or woolen item. You may purchase a blank silk scarf in class to practice demonstrated shibori dye techniques. Do not miss this special opportunity to learn about the brilliant sustainable and safe dyes found in your local forests! Onsite lodging is available at The Sachem Farmhouse B&B. Make the most of the first day of summer and gear up for an adventurous season exploring wild mushroom dyes, beautiful landscapes and wine.

Pre-registration is required. Includes all supplies.
